The Book Thieves Getting Close to Midnight EP Review

Homegrown duo The Book Thieves have been one of our favorites since launching the site and crossing paths, made up of two emcees with one reigning from London known by the alias of Legoman and Oxford's very own Ol-e Mac who together spit remarkable wordplay and head nodding lyrics over funky and authentic beats. We're glad to say they're back with a brand new release titled Getting Close to Midnight EP featuring 7 tracks with the beats being handled by numerous producers.

Cross Fire is the opening track on the EP featuring a lucid and tranquil skit blending into the piano loops, Fredo supplies the exact production TBT's thrive on! Quickly delving in with their penmanship, displaying their snappy flows and delivery they lace the track with thought provoking and well written rhymes! A solid opening track, check out theofficial video below!

The Book Thieves | Cross Fire

Written On the Wall has been produced by Mafegi and oozes more self reflection and laid back vibes, both Legoman and Ol-e Mac bombard the riddem with another dose of well penned rhymes delivered with their signature flow allowing you to kick back and process every word spat, this is something TBT does with ease. Changes features Fredo on the production for a second time, along with Luca Brazi blessing the beat alongside TBT's! Bringing rhymes of progression and positivity throughout. Outsiders has been produced by Kaloo and bringing boom bap vibes to the EP, creating a solid platform for Ol-e Mac and Legoman to let loose upon! Potentially my favorite track from the EP, Legoman really stands out for us on this track, bringing a barrage of deadly flows.

Memories sums up exactly what I like about The Book Thieves, with the laid back production handled by Nephyu they can reflect on past hardships with their unique sound, compact with impressive pengame and heartfelt rhymes - nothing but real music for real people. Hurricane is produced by Skratch Zilla and features another emcee alongside TBT's with the opening verse from Benofficial, breaking down the world and society's problems easily with his crystallized flow! Legoman keeps the momentum moving with his second verse and Ol-e Mac shuts it down with another flawless third verse. Last track from the EP is titled Corridors produced by Sam Zircon kicks off with a short skit from Kathy Burke, Legoman jumps straight in with heartfelt bars painting vivid imagery with each rhyme of a person being neglected by society while only wanting to be loved, Ol-e Mac continues the content moving with tales of Alcohol addiction and the damages caused, willingly or unwillingly! Definitely one of my personal favorites from the EP. The Book Thieves have done nothing but fulfill my expectations with the Getting Close to Midnight EP, continuing their unique homegrown style and thought provoking rhymes at the forefront of the release!
