Stephen Paul Manderson was born on the 27th of November 1983 and is widely known by the name of Progressor Green. He was born and raised in Hackney, East London and was raised by his grandmother, Patricia from a very young age on the Northwold Estate.
His father Peter committed suicide in 2008 In Brentwood Essex, Green stated "I'd had a turbulent relationship with my dad. He was always in and out of my life and I was raised by my grandmother Patricia.
Mum, who had me at 16, was there for the most part but my grandmother was the most influential. I last saw my dad alive on my 18th birthday. He came over to see me but after that we just stopped talking. There was no real reason.
He hanged himself and I had to go and identify the body in the morgue".
He also goins into detail about his farthers death in a song titled 'Goodnight' which can be found on his album 'Alive Till I'm Dead' he also touches on problems within his family on a track titled 'Read All About It' which is from his album 'At Your Inconvenience'.
Pro Green fell into rapping accidentally, he was at a house party of one of his friends and a lot of people were freestyling he was then put on the spot and gave it a go and found it worked for him.
He then seen a flyer for a freestyle night called 'LyricPad' and decided to go dispite having little to none experience in freestyling however he won. He decided to return to LyricPad the next month and a scout from JumpOff spotted him, he then decided to compete in the JumpOff League and won week after week and became their Champion. To this day he remains the only JumpOff MC to win serveral times in a row and he has accomplished this twice.
While competing at JumpOff Mike Skinner from The Streets spotted and signed Pro Green to his record label known as The Beats, when progreen was asked about his time at this label he is never very complimentary about his time there.
In 2006 Pro green released his first mixtape titled 'The Lecture #1' the Beats label then terminated and he began to produce his own EP titled 'The Green EP'.
Manderson accuired his name of 'Professor Green', the green secion comes from the slang of Cannabis as he was known for selling the plant until he signed to The Beats label. The Professor part of the name was given to him because of his intelligence although he dropped out of school. He was offered a place at St. Pauls School in Barnes, however Manderson decided to go to a comprehensive in Tottenham.
On the 23rd of May 2008 Manderson was attacked with a broken bottle at a nightclub in Shoreditch, East London known as 'Cargo Nightclub'. The wound overlapped a tattoo he has on his next which reads 'Lucky', the assailant was convicted of the stabbing and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Professor Green rose to success when he won the Inaugural Jumpoff Myspace £50,000 Battle tournament which took place in July 2008, shortly after in 2009 he worked with Lily Allen on her Concert Tour.
On the 19th of July 2010 Green released his Debut album titled 'Alive Till I'm Dead' which features vocals from Lily Allen, Emeli Sandé, Fink, Labrinth, Example and The Streets.
