OneLion Records Lion Tape Vol 2 Mixtape Review

We're back once again for a full length review, this time for our OneLion Sound heads as they've just dropped the second official mixtape! If you missed the first one then I highly recommend you up your game and cop that, the entire idea is to get a bunch of talanted emcees and producers together to come under one release to make as much ruckus as possible, and the first one delivered entirely! But let's delve into the Lion Tape Vol 2 and see whats happend since then! Featuring numerous producers and emcees OLS present a total of 20 tracks for you to wrap your dome peice around.

Opening up the Lion Tape Vol 2 is Post-Real from The Outerclass featuring Detax on the bar game, Loop Faction on production and Jabbathakut bringing us the cuts! You can expect Detax to snap and bring a fury of bars with hard hitting punchlines through out, repping to put the South West further on the hip hop map and shouting out everyone going against the grain. We hooked up with him to get his first official video out there which can be watched below!

The Outerclass (Detax & Loop Faction) | Post-Real ft. Jabbathakut

Joe Burn has been around for a while now and built up his own buzz, bringing the homegrown sound of the soundwest out in full force! His feature track on the tape is titled Twat Lapping should show you exactly what we mean, showering the beat with his unpredicable flow and aggy rhymes! Straight up piff anthem for all you tokers. 3rd up is the Twin Twin FM Posse Cut produced by Ovatone featuring a bag of heads each taking their turn to bring a verse to the beat! Featuring the following in order: Messy (RIP), Stemik, Fire@Will, OvaTone, Chattabox, Mason! Peep this below!

Dearskin is coming through next bringing us his track Bubblin produced by Stemik! Taking to the beat to express his inner demons and put them to rest from Anxiety to the snakes lurking in the shadows! Shire Roots brought a banger on the first mixtape so we're glad to see them back with Think Regularproduced by Sketch! The beat instantly gives off a war anthem vibe as it builds and shit man, Shire Roots does it once again! Firing a slew of rhymes for your earlobes to dissolve, bringing his unique presence and flow out in overdrive mode!

The rugged-est clik in the deep Southwest are up next known as The Prophecy coming straight outta Penzance! Their feature track is titled Organ Man and already has me hyped, embark as the woozy and sinister production takes effect, as each Prophecy member takes their turn to sacrafice the beat for the mantis overlords. If you haven't heard either of there albums then you need to get on that shit, cop them from the OLS Bandcamp page for free! For now, listen to Organ Man below.

Slards up next! One half of the Defekted Sektion collective! His features titled Born A Freak with Baron on the production. As the beat enters it slowly breaths life until taking its final form and Slard begins to drop his progessive and uplifting rhymes with his signature flow. Spark up a zoot and cotch back to this one, Slard gets better with each release and brings nothing but vibes on this one, bringing you further into the life of Slard. Dr. VooDoo & Witness MC hold the 8th track titled Kunt Fu with production from Oozhe! As the beat releases a heavenly essense Dr Voodoo & Witness MC set out to put it to good use with a barrage of punchlines and wordplay from start to finish.

It's time for Verbo's track! Just for the record this head had one of my personal favourites from the first OLS Mixtape, so let's see what hes brought to the forefront on this one! Titled Bloody Fists produced by Samphet! As the beat releases a sea of tranquility Verbo takes flight drawing you in with his flow as he descibres his twisted trail which has left him battered and bruised with bloody fists. Lab Rats features Moraless, Stemik and Cletus riding Prozac's neck snapping production as each emcee brings a verse that ignites with the beat, supplying a wealth of bars on a underdog tip, this is a killer trio of heads each which a gully style of their own and strong chemistry on record, hit play below on this shit now!

Fire@Will has the 11th track on the Mixtape titled Too Many Times and jheeze he shut it down. This is the first time hearing a full track from Fire@Will and he's injected noting but soul into this, showcasing every aspect of a dope rapper! Bringing everything you want in a flow, presence, an array of picture painting bars as he brings you into his life and part in music! Next up is the captain Cletus with his track Havana Club which I've had the pleasure of seeing live a few times now and I can't lie I rate this head highly, one of the best heads in the SW. Cletus bringing nothing but ruckus, an onslaught of bars on a real life tip, dissecting the problems in his life and being unable to find a solution to the cause - something we can all relate to I'm sure. Check out the track below!

This next one should have already crossed your radar by now, Known as South West Mind State AKA SWMS and they quickly got recognition from the scene for there greasy penmanship and extraterrestrial delivery! The track which features on the mixtape is FLAT 2 featuring Ritten, Treece, Gormless and We'll See with Sam Blazer on the production! They need no introduction, check the official video below!

FLAT 2 | Ritten x Treece x Gormless x We'll See (SWMS) Prod. Sam Blazer

The OLS Head Honcho Stemik is back and this time dropping a collab with Slard titled Synergy produced by Ovatone! The beat is utter grease and is a solid platform for both these heads to get busy with, there's not much to say for this expect for a lot spontantious head nodding! Chattabox is coming with the 15th track with I Walk Towards produced by Doc Digi! Chatta dropped his debut EP earlier in the year so we're glad to see he's been busy in the booth. Out of all the tracks we've heard from him, this might just about be the best introduction to Chatta and his style as he sets the atmopshere with his menacing flow and on-point bars repping on OLS movement tip. Hit play below!

We now land on Resample with his track Imminent Threat with more production from Baron! The beat oozes consciousness as soon as it starts and is cring out for some thought provoking rhymes and luckily Resample's brought it all. Completely packed with an abunence of content and food for thought lines, wordplay and relevance! Titled Stockholm Syndrome produced by Stemik and featuring Shire Roots, OvaTone & Seraphim we arrive on the 17th track! A concoction of versatile rhymers each with their own distintive styles, combining forces to set the levels and air what's got them under the effects of Stockholm! I've been waiting for this one to come around, from the Scottish Duo Delivery Room and DJ Riseone the production with their track Run! Consisting of two rappers who always bring the ruckus with their music and this one did not dissapoint! The beat pounds as they take it in turns to bring out their murderous pengame and put anyone who doubts the sound out of bussiness.

Syn Sentinel has the second to last track from the tape titled Signs & Symbols and is the first time I've heard anything he's laced. The beat is straight from the depths of hell and Syn Sentinel comes equipped with a lazy flow, communicating with the beat telepathicly bringing plenty of quotable bars on this one. The last track on the mixtape is from the wavy don Moraless with his track Heads Down, Thumbs Up produced by Hezit! Moraless carries the ability to pick a beat apart with his flows and his closing track captures him doing that with ease! Moraless attacks the laid back, jazz infused production with a variety of bars as his flow bobs and weaves around each rhyme inducing erratic head nodding when you least expect it.

We hope you've enjoyed our review of the Lion Tape Vol2 however do not take our word for it and cop yourself the entire mixtape below for the ridiculously small fee of £0.50p! There's a few extra options in which you can grab a combo version coming with the OLS T-Shirt so make sure to drop some dollar if you're feeling the movement! Make sure you peep the other releases on there too, plenty available for free download catering for a variety of sounds!
