UndergroundHH Video Round Up July 2015

Here at Underground double H HQ, we love a good music video. Those who capture an idea, or a style and then take it to the extremes just to produce art for us to consume are amongst our most highly revered. As UK hip hop relishes in a new golden era, and as film makers become more challenging and experimental, we are seeing some of the most diverse and interesting short films on the web. So to keep you up to date with what is on offer, we've decided to start our monthly video round up. (We're not being too strict on the release dates, more when we come across them, so if you have something we've missed let us know.)

Kicking off this month, is one of UK hip hop's most impressive MCs. Syntax has gone from local hero to one of our best international representatives, and his flows and wit continue to impress. Together here with Roast Beatz and championed by MTV's Baps, the video is an 80's'esq attack on the eyeballs. Taken from the album 'DJ Roast presents luxury boombap'. Like a drop of hip hop acid to ya retinas, and a beat so catchy it should be banned. Graphic design and elements by D.Wils, 3D intro by Stuart Green.

Second up is a video from another name synonymous with UK hip hop. Pete Cannon together with Josh Black have crafted a soul tinged track that begs you to nod your heads. A summer evening cruising in a convertible, with conversation from the MC that showcases both his skills and passion. Filmed and edited by Owen Birrell, the video is scattered with some lovely imagery and landscapes.

Number 3 is an MC who made his name as one of the best battle MCs these shores have ever seen. Stig of the Dump, together with a stupidly slick beat by Jehst, who also features on chorus duties, the track is a stunning ode to Stanley Kubrick. Directed by MJ Blackman and produced by Roxanne Holman, the film is one of the finest hip hop videos i've ever seen, and one i'll be revisiting many times.

4th to the frame is an act that needs no introductions. Adam And Cuth are one of the best things about UK hip hop at the moment, and we're happy to be sharing their stage with ridiculously talented MC Dizraeli. Directed and Edited by Ben Hooper, shot by Joe Williams and Ben Hooper, the video is an eerie background to a brilliant UK track. Lyrically a great combination, the MCs entertain throughout. You can read our full review of the album on the site now.

Up next number 5 is out on the Defcon label, we said... "Electric Smile is a summer UK hip hop vibe-filled gem in a scene all too often sitting in the gravel and dirt. Blessed with a lush harmonious chorus by Zoe Evangeline, and with feature rhymes from Serocee and Mystro, the track gives the listener a positive twist to the generic daily grind of modern UK life. Directed by Rhodri Davies, produced by Frankie Plato-Beale and animated by Dave Thomas the clever visuals go well to enhance both the beat and the vocals, and give a rather wonderful visual component to a great release. Defcon pick and choose what they get behind wisely, and are passionate about giving their growing audience a quality product." -Invokal - Verbalist Journalist

Last but not least, number 6 is a video by our very own writer and wordcore MC Invokal. Together with Bluw Media Studios and film maker Joel Shepherd. Created and directed by Invokal himself, Undergroundhh had this to say... "UFO (United Flowing Orators) is testament to just how hard this man works, and the end result speaks for itself. UFO contains the efforts of many people pulling together to drop a sci-fi inspired rhymefest! An official video was also created that resonates with the rhymes and it's simply stunning!" -Leon Calder On a beat by Dj Tones and from forth coming album by Broken Authors - 'Get Up, Get Stressed', the 6 MCs reference every sci-fi icon you can think of, and then some.

Broken Authors - U.F.O (United Flowing Orators) Featuring Mista Websta, Tony The Scribe, Lennie, TS One and Native Son
