Jonny Wayne Lyrics

Ill Literature is the third release from the south-west based hip hop crew known as The Scribes. The album features The Scribes usual members but has also had a number of outside associates help out on certain tracks, this has brought in a range of different influences and styles resulting in what has to be one of the best albums this year.

The album features a total of 10 tracks, each of these tracks have been perfected; each with their individual style, range of influences and great variety of subject matter. Shaun Amos delivers heartfelt poetry on every track over some seriously dope beats mixed with some guitar licks and some scratching by Lacey. Normally we would highlight some of our favourite tracks off the album but it's near impossible to do, check out their tracks below accompanied with the lyrics!

Jonny Wayne Lyrics

Year of Release: 2012
Verse 1
    • Jonny was a youngling who was brought up in the Southern state of Texas/
    • Dad has left us so he only knows his mother/
    • Wakes up early every morning/ Break of dawn and makes her breakfast/
    • 'Cause she has not left her bed since Daddy's very early exit/
    • Jonny never knew him just the ruin he was leaving/
    • Not a photo left at home so wouldn't know him if he'd seen him/
    • Mum is quiet on the subject he doesn't object till her breathing/
    • Becomes tight upon her lungs and doctors visit every evening/
    • Jonny hates his lessons 'cause he's different to the others/
    • Stayed at home and had no brothers so his social skills were smothered/
    • Played alone and so he stutters b b bullies make him suffer/
    • So he's grateful least at first to stay at home and nurse his mother/
    • Jonny's really trying but she's dying whilst regretting/
    • Loving someone who's a drunken mess who left whilst she was pregnant/
    • No she cannot let her son know that his Daddy was a junkie/
    • So she uses her last breath to say “Your Daddy was John Wayne”/
Hook 1
    • And as she slipped away she told him that he would have been there if he could/
    • But it was out of his control/
    • And she said when I'm gone you've got to try to grow up to be just like him/
    • You've got to be kind and strong/
    • You've got to be one of the good guys son 'cause there's too many of the bad ones/
Verse 2
    • Jonny's turning eighteen now he feels like he's escaping/
    • From the care of state that caged him and the others there who plagued him/
    • No one there believed him that his Dad's a cowboy said he's faking/
    • And his Daddy's just a vagrant but his belief was not shaken/
    • Jonny gets a job and wants to be just like his Dad was/
    • Son you've got to be a good guy there's too many of the bad ones/
    • So he's kind and strong and silent like the heroes in the westerns/
    • All of which attracts attention of the girl who works reception/
    • Jonny's very awkward but she's talking to him kindly/
    • She reminds him of his mother so he follows her so blindly/
    • Friday night she hits the bar and whispers “Jonny boy come find me”/
    • So he dresses in his best and steps out thinking of what might be/
    • Jonny slowly steps in with his Stetson and his chaps are on/
    • Complete with matching pistols but his wishful thoughts don't last that long/
    • The locals they start laughing and he sees her as she laughs along/
    • Like “Jonny boy's a cowboy though his Daddy was a vagabond/
Hook 2
    • And as she laughs and as the good ol' boys in the bar mock Jonny's Stetson and replica pistols/
    • He turns and leaves their taunts following him down the street as he walks into the cold night/
    • Their laughter ringing in his ears and he goes home alone/
Verse 3
    • Jonny wears a Stetson so he's definitely western/
    • Though he cannot be a cowboy no it's only an obsession/
    • So his girlfriend up and left him 'cause he will not stop obsessing/
    • Now he's sat in watching John Wayne drinking whiskey and depression/
    • Never been aggressive but his pistol's looking tempting/
    • Wears the holster into town and now he's feeling somewhat empty/
    • Swears the other men are laughing as he passes with his lasso/
    • They drive cars and mock his horses and his Texas ranger tattoos/
    • Jonny's never bad news always harmless a bit simple/
    • But these people keep on laughing and he's alone with no kin folk/
    • So these locals they poke all their fun and make their jokes at Jonny/
    • But it's getting to the stage where all these statements are unfunny/
    • Jonny goes back home and grabs the gun he bought of E-bay/
    • Silver star upon his chest and Stetson/ Classic western cliché/
    • Now he rides up to the locals puts his pistols to their heads/
    • And rides into the sunset after everyone is dead/
Hook 3
  • If you go outside/
  • All those friends in your mind/
  • Will forget about you/
  • We forgot about you/
