D-Tox Half Addict EP Review

D-Tox Half Addict EP Review

We've not been updating the site recently as I've been sunning it up overseas, however while away OneLion Sound hit me up with the debut Half Addict EP from D-Tox. Instantly I had to start pennin my thoughts for the release as my ears have been fully aligned to their direction since clocking a video D-Tox dropped earlier in the year. D-Tox reigns from Taunton, which isn't really on the map for hiphop but we guarantee this EP marks the first change in tide. So here's what I conjured up when bumping the Half Addict EP on my travels.

D-Tox Half Addict EP Review

The Half Addict EP opens up with Once An Addict produced by Yuma with a beat that oozes tranquil vibrations which'll echo through your ear pieces. Once the beat drops D-Tox captures your attention with ease as he displays intricate story telling of his youth and teenage years. Embark on his journey of bad influences, lack of fatherhood, drug abuse and its crippling effect of leaving you wanting more! Nearing his twenties it eventually led to dealing followed by an almost fatal overdose, and then Dan Webster died and D-Tox was born.

Next up is Life Is Pain with Art Aknid handling the production creating another solid platform for D-Tox to get reflective on. He does exactly that and his bars, flow and presence will leave you in awe as he continues the subject matter, explaining his mindstate after many troublesome years. From his new found purpose and being clean of all vices he reflects on the dark times he endured and how it's quickly becoming a lifestyle many choose to brag about. While feeling stoppable and numb of all feelings, the pain of sobering up is another crippling hurdle they've yet to face and it's something you live with... Life Is Pain.

D-Tox | Life Is Pain

The second to last track on the release is Writers Block and lifts the mood up ever so slightly while still keeping that gritty content at the forefront of the EP. Green Finger supplies an immaculate beat and D-Tox ensures its put to best use, expect a barrage of a mix mash of his thoughts on too many subjects to list with the underlining meaning that he finally found some therapy within the music. It's actually incredible that we're still unearthing such a variety of talented rappers and trust me, after 3 tracks this guy is already in the runnings with one of, if not the best EP of the year!

I mentioned a video I clocked earlier in the year which quickly caught my attention, that was also the first time I also heard D-Toxs bars - Well that track was Yesterday! Finally I've got my hands on the track in its final form and it hasn't disappointing at all. You can expect to hear D-Tox lace Hanto's angelic production with an array of situations he's been through which has made him look upon happy families with envy, the drug habits which filled the void in the later years and the tragic state of how its becoming the norm in society for kids to not know who their Farther is! While it sounds overly negative it's actually incredibly inspiring and has certainly hit home for myself and many others. Peep the video he dropped a few months back below!

My one and only gripe with the EP is that its left me fiending for my next session of D-Toxs encapsulating gritty flow and deep subject matter. While it's a short EP weighing in with only 4 tracks, it sure does pack a punch and feels much longer! This is down to each track having an insane amount of replay value, literally! I've listened to Yesterday hundreds of times since first hearing it six months ago and it's still raw and authentic as when my ears first peeped it! If you've been lucky enough to get your hands on the Half Addict EP for review purposes you're probably feeling blessed, to those reading this without a copy then feat not as it drops on the 24th Of July!
