The Scribes A Story Of All About How Review

The Scribes A Story Of All About How Review

We're back today to bring light to a South West collective who produce nothing but truly unique hip hop with their individual styles they've been honing for many years. The collective is known by the name of The Scribes and consists co-lyricists Ill Literate and Loki Steele, beatbox maestro Lacey and turntablist Kenny Hectyc! Earlier last week they dropped their second album to date, titled A Story Of All About How featuring a total of 16 tracks spanning across a variety of subjects! We're going to delve straight into review mode so let's go!

Opening up A Story Of All About How is the track titled Crowd Of Thorns featuring the punch of a rock band with its energetic production, quality penmanship and experimental flows! Moving on towards La Mancha bringing more next level production and an assortment of food for thought rhymes for you to soak up, along with a wide range of inspiring genres! This is exactly why The Scribes stand out with ease!

Easing you into Cicero with gentle production building up to the drop of racey, electronic vibrations to the dome in which Loki Steele opens up with the first verse and Ill Literate continuing with the second, drenched in an abundance of tight rhymes backed by a killer hook! Industrial Growth brings a slower instrumental to the forefront, allowing the emcees to do their thing with ultimate conviction and that's exactly what they do! Another flawless example of how versatile and easy it is for The Scribes to get the listeners attention!

Skipping the next three (That Sound, Coming Home & Action Pact) for absolutely no reason other than saving them entirely for your own listening pleasure, we land on A Wake which gently eases you into the track with a eerie but alluring intro until the drop uplifts the vibe tenfold! Hit soon after with an array of double time rhymes, clear diction and impeccable pengame!

The lead single for the album is titled Blood In Your Eyes consisting of a whirlwind of synths, guitar and strings laced upon beats and a barbaric rap style! The track does nothing but showcase exactly what The Scribes are pushing, energetic, vocal distorting and face slapping production throughout! Peep the official video below, a sort of follow up to their debut albums single, Monsters.

The Scribes | Blood In Your Eyes

Time and time again The Scribes prove how underrated they really are and Sunshine is another one of those examples, compact with emotion provoking production and incredible penmanship with the issues they rap around, each word is perfectly placed, the delivery keeps on drawing you in and the subject matter is impeccable!

Ill Literate | Verse 2
  • He's caught up in waves of thought drowning in silence
  • While all of his mates just surround him in violence
  • He buries his feelings turn demons inside him
  • And slowly turns grave in the tomb of surviving
  • Gets harder thinks larger can't shake the stigmata
  • Gets marginalised and rejected a martyr
  • He's classed as a miscreant grasps and then slips again
  • Lastly gets so god damn dissident militant
  • Got to get a better life real fast options aren't open
  • Forgot about the better side he had soft mens get broken
  • He's tired of hoping and fired with rage
  • The animal choking gets freed from the cage
  • The street's now his pate he feeds with his knife
  • And takes what he needs like a thief in the night
  • He tries not to think in the days what he's done
  • Just sinks in the downpour and waits for the sun

Ob(Li)vious is one of my favourites from A Story Of All About How going in on the charity's around the globe benefiting themselves before the cause and meaningless celebrities jumping on the bandwagon if it's profitable for themselves! CONvictions is even more proof for the groups versatility (do you even need proof now?) as they blend a collection of genres into passionate and completely unique homegrown hip hop! We won't say much else except hit the play button beloW!

As we draw closer to the end of the album we find ourselves on Pain Relief which contains an abundance of flawless rhymes covering numerous subjects, laced ontop of an array of instruments and production creating a truly unique experience for your ears! Skipping the next two tracks Flunk Out and If You Say So we find ourselves on the closing track Hazy, boasting a lively, electro and funk infused beat which oozes uplifting vibes from the moment it starts to finish! Not to mention the onslaught of rhymes lacing it, with an assortment of subjects and delivery it's ended the album on an unbelievable high!

That brings our review to a closure, we hope you've enjoyed our review of The Scribes latest album A Story Of All About How, it's always a pleasure to feature these heads! Entirely in a league of their own with the flows, beats, pengame and subject matter that we can vouch over and over again for them! Make sure you peep the rest of the album below and grab yourself a copy if you're feeling their movement!
