Gard Feez Some Assembly Required Album Review
Raw, rude, aggressive and brilliant. That's the first four words that came to mind when listening to the brand new album by Gard Feez. In his own words in the blurb GF asks... "Join me on a thought train wreck of a journey into the madcap world, to the inner cogs within the portal of daftness." That makes my job as a reviewer much easier, because it's pretty bloody spot on. There are few MCs that would stand up to the backlash of rhymes this brutal, and Gard Feez does it with an attitude unrivaled, and then sticks his chin out proudly in anticipation of the slap.
Hailing from north of the boarder, Gard Feez has a vocal presence that is hard to ignore. The attitude in his delivery is one of an MC at the end of his tether with a world full of futility and injustice. And it gives him plenty to say. Rhymes that roll over you like a steam roller and beats from an array of producers that do his lyricism justice, the album rocks on through a tour of the bruising back streets and dark and dingy drinking dens of hip hop.
The album makes a collection of tracks with a conglomerate of feature MCs and producers into something that's much bigger than its parts. Contributions come hard and fast, notably and amongst others, in the shape of Underground HH favorite Ciaran Mac. This isn't hip hop for the faint hearted. The bars are close to the bone and brutal, but if you're a fan of black comedy and hip hop, then this is for you. Morbid and moreish, manic and musical. Oh yeah, and if you can guess how many swear words are concealed in the album, then he'll let you hit him ten times with a stick of your choice. Now THAT's confidence in your work.
